SOWDEN, Dora Leah. M.A. Journalist. Born Russia and came to
South Africa 1922. 1922. Educated at Dominican Convent, Germiston, and University
of the Witwatersrand. Music and Film Critic of the "Rand Daily Mail."
Committee member (former Hon. Secretary) South African P.E.N. Centre. Contributor
to British and American music journals. Author of several chapters on S.A.
Jewish history in "The Jews in South Africa" (ed. Saron and Hotz)
1955; and "The Jewish Contribution to South African Literature" in
"The Jew in Africa" (1945). Married Lewis Sowden. Has now settled in
Israel.
