SOWDEN, Lewis. M.A. Journalist and Author. Born Manchester, England, 1905, son of Jacob Isaac and Henda Sowden. Came to South Africa 1911. Educated at Germiston High School and University of the Witwatersrand. Foreign Editor and Theatre critic, "Rand Daily Mail." Past President, South African Society of Journalists. Vice-President (former Chairman) South African P.E.N. Centre. Served in Civic Guard during World War II. Publications: Politics: "The South African Union" (1953); Poems: "The Charmed Fabric" (1943).
