SCHAUDER, Hyman. M A., M.Sc., C.Eng., A.M.I. Chem.E. Industrial Chemist and Economist. Born Port Elizabeth, 18th October, 1910; son of Adolph and Frieda Schauder. Educated at Grey High School, Rhodes University and University of London. Director. A. Schauder & Sons (Pty.) (Pty.) Ltd., Schauder's Investments (Pty.) Ltd. and Pancreol of S.A. (Pty.) Ltd., Port Elizabeth. Member of Port Elizabeth Hebrew Congregation and other communal organisations. President, E.P. Society of Engineers, 1945; President, Society of Leather Trades' Chemists, S.A. Section, 1954; Sectional President (Section A) S.A. Association for the Advancement of Science, 1961; Council Member, Economic Society of S.A., 1960-1966; Chairman, Midland Regional Research Committee, C.S.I.R., since 1947; Senior Member, American Chemical Society, since 1958; Associate member, S.A. Chemical Institute, since 1948. Was recipient of five scholarships, including H. B Webb Research scholarship. Author of many scientific, economic, Jewish historical and other papers.
