SEREBRO, Harry. Director of Companies. Born Latvia, 1898, son of Melach and Eva Serebro. Came to South Africa 1910. Educated at Heilbron, King Edward VII School, Johannesburg, and University of Cape Town. Taught Mathematics and Science at Heidelberg and Volksrust High Schools before going into business. Chairman and Managing Director, Birmingham Plating and Manufacturing Co. (Pty.) Ltd., Johannesburg, and Director of several other companies. Was Town Councillor in Volksrust from 1930 to 1943, and Mayor of Volksrust 1938-1939. Enlisted in the South African Forces during World War II and saw service in Abyssinia; demobilised with the rank of Captain. Former Hon. Officer, S.A. Jewish Board of Deputies.
