Educated at Grey High School, Port Elizabeth, and Swansea Grammar School, Wales. Foundation member, Green and Sea Point Hebrew Congregation, During World War I served in British Army with 38th Welsh Division, demobilised as Acting Battery Sergeant Major, 18 Pounder Artillery.
