Sichel, Karl Hermann


SICHEL, Karl Hermann. Dipl. Eng. (Berl.), M.I.A. Retired Architect. Born Kassel, Germany 20th January, 1886, son of Gustav and Anna Sichel. Educated at Universities of Karlsruhe, Munich and Berlin, Came to South Africa 1935. Was Assistant Architect, Kennedy, Furner, Irvine-Smith & Joubert. Previously was Royal Prussian Government Architect; Assistant City Engineer at Kassel; Executive Member, Kassel Branch of Union of German Architects (B.D.A.). Hon. Architect of St. Christopher Hostels, Johannesburg. Member of United Jewish Reform Congregation, Jewish Helping Hand and Burial Society, B'nai B'rith Lodge, Johannesburg. During First World War served with German Army and was awarded Red Cross Medal III, Iron Cross II, War Medal with Swords. Married Dr. Frieda Gotthelft 1918; one son, one daughter.
