ROMM, Ittamar Samuel. B.A. (Hons.) (Rand). Insurance Broker. Born Holyoke, Mass., U.S.A., 6th February, 1919, son of Mrs. Bertha Romm, who still resides there. Came to South Africa 1936. Educated at Minneapolis, Minn., U.S.A.; Hebron Yeshiva, Jerusalem (where he received Smicha); Grey College, Bloemfontein, and University of the Witwatersrand. Director, I. S. Romm, Brokers (Pty.) Ltd. Previously Teacher and Principal of Hebrew Schools in South Africa; coast- to-coast Lecturer in United States of America on Jewish problems. Member, Transvaal Zionist Youth Executive, 1938-1940; Committee member and former Chairman, S.A. Jewish Ex-Servicemen's League; member, Hebrew Order of David; member, Johannesburg Zionist Association. During World War II served in the South African Army as Jewish Chaplain "Up North" and in the Italian campaigns, with rank of Captain. Member, Jewish Guild, Town and Country Club. Married Frieda Perra Cohen (niece of Rabbi Joseph Kahaneman, the Ponovezer Rav), 1948; one son, two daughters. Recreations: Swimming. bowls, chess, writing. Add.: 120, Clovelly Road. Greenside, P.O.
