SANDLER, Norman, B.A., U.E.D. Principal, King David High
School, Johannesburg since its inception in January, 1955. Born Benoni 27th
December, 1917, son of Abe and Ella Sandler. Educated at Vryheid High School
and University of Natal. Previously held senior English posts at various high
schools. Initiated S.A. Jewish Board of Education scheme to send Std. 8 pupils
to Israel for 3 1/2 months to learn to speak Hebrew fluently (to date 219 have
participated in this scheme). Married Hilda Sacks, 1943; one son, one daughter.
Represented University of Natal 1st teams at cricket, tennis, hockey, and
played hockey for North Natal. Recreations: Bowls, gym. Add.: Forty Winks, Club
Street, Linksfield, P.O. Box 81, Orange Grove, Johannesburg.
