LICHTIGFELD, Adolph. Dr.Jur., D. Phil. Senior Lecturer in Philosophy to the University of South Africa (Pretoria); Superintendent of the South African Jewish Orphanage, "Arcadia" (Johannesburg). Born in Germany, son of Joshua and Chaye Lichtigfeld. Educated at Real Gymnasium, Duesseldorf, University of Cologne and Yeshiva College Etz Chayim, London. Came to South Africa as Spiritual Leader of the United Hebrew Institutions of Germiston in 1939, where he remained until he assumed his present position at the Jewish Orphanage in 1952. During World War II served as Part-Time Chaplain to the U.D.F. at Germiston and Benoni Air Force stations. Author of "Philosophy and Revelation" (London, 1937); "Twenty Centuries of Jewish Thought" (London, 1938); "Jaspers' Metaphysics" (London, 1954); "Aspects of Jaspers' Philosophy" (Pretoria, 1963); contributor to various philosophical publications. Married Renia Lipschiltz (who is now Matron of Arcadia), two sons. Add.: 22 Oxford Road, Parktown, Johannesburg.
