MARCOW, Alick. Director of Companies. Born Russia 15th July, 1891, son of Lazarus and Rebecca Marcow. Came to South Africa, 1900. Educated at North End Grey School, Port Elizabeth. Director of Oceanic Mills (Pty.) Ltd., Oil & Feed Mills Ltd., Whyte & Co. Ltd. and National Chamber of Milling, Port Elizabeth. Previously was Managing Director of Northern Milling Co. Ltd., Aliwal North, and participated actively in local affairs; was Deputy Mayor of Aliwal North, 1942-46; Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Publicity Association; Treasurer, subsequently Chairman, Aliwal North Hebrew Congregation. In Port Elizabeth has been Chairman of the United Hebrew Institutions, 1952-54; President of the Orthodox Hebrew Congregation, 1952-53; Presi-ent of the Port Elizabeth Hebrew Congregation, 1958-59. At present, Executive member, E.P. Council of the S.A. Jewish Board of Deputies (formerly Treasurer). Active Freemason, holding office in Grand Lodge of England. Past Trustee, Hillel Lodge, Hebrew Order of David. Member, Wedgewood Park Country Club. Married the late Jane Bendelstein, 1915; two sons, three daughters. Recreation: Bowls.
