Educated at New York University, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Jewish Institute of Religion (U.S.A.). Came to South Africa 1950. Rabbi of the Durban Progressive Jewish Congregation. Formerly Rabbi of the Greenwich Hebrew Institute, Greenwich, Connecticut, U.S.A. Member of Governing Body, World Union for Progressive Judaism; Executive member, Southern African Union for Progressive Judaism; Chairman, S.A. Council for Progressive Jewish Education. Executive member, Council of Natal Jewry; member, Zionist Council for Natal; Vice-Chairman, Durban Marriage Guidance Society; Council member, Durban Branch South African Institute of Race Relations. During World War II served as Jewish Chaplain with the U.S. Air Force in Europe. Married Shulamith Wittenberg, 1933; one son, two daughters. Add.: 40, Berriedale Rd., Durban.
