Educated at Grey College, Bloemfontein; Rhodes University, Grahamstown; and University of O.F.S., Bloemfontein. Practised at the Bar in Bloemfontein until his appointment to the Bench. Former Executive member, S.A. Jewish Board of Deputies (O.F.S. Committee). Served in President Steyn Regiment in World War II and later on staff of Outeniqua Command, Oudtshoorn and George; rank Captain. Member of Ramblers' Club, Bloemfontein; Bloemfontein Club; Victoria Club, Pietermaritzburg. Married Grace Fainsinger, 1941; one son, one daughter. Recreation: Golf (formerly cricket and tennis).
