Misheiker, Beatrice Sylvia (Betty)


MISHEIKER, Beatrice Sylvia (Betty). Author, Composer and Songwriter. Born Pretoria 7th June, 1919, daughter of Clement and Yettah Fairly. Educated at Rodeon High School, Zwartruggens. Author of "Strange Odyssey" (1952); "Wings on her Petticoat" (1953); "Handsome Piggywigg" (1963); "The Bear Who Wanted the Mostest" (1963). Her play, "Watermelons", was presented at Children's Theatre, Johannesburg, in 1962. Her two musical plays for children "The "Kaboably Tree" and "Senor Onyon" were presented in 1966 at the Civic Theatre, Johannesburg and in various towns. Nine longplay and numerous extended play records, both in English and Afrikaans of her children's songs have been recorded in London. Over 400 of her children's programmes and three radio musical plays have been broadcast by the South African Broadcasting Corporation. She has also written numerous short stories and articles. Member of P.E.N., S.A.M.R.O., the Performing Right Society, Songwriters' Guild of Great Britain. Married Aron Misheiker, 1942; one son, one daughter. Recreations: Cooking, reading.
