NELL, Dinnie. B.A., U.E.D. Secondary School Teacher. Born
Steytlerville Cape Province, daughter of Elias and Liba Topic. Educated at
Wesleyan High School. Grahamstown and Gill College, Somerset East; Rhodes
University College (was recipient of Croll scholarship). Together with the Principal
started the Pearson High School in Port Elizabeth, the first co-educational
High School, which has now grown to the largest parallel medium High School in
the Province. Former Chairman, Eastern Province Women's Zionist Committee. Hon.
Life President Port Elizabeth Zionist Committee; Chairman, Port Elizabeth
Women's Zionist League. Has served as a member of the Eastern Province
Committee of the S.A. Jewish Board of Deputies, and is active in all spheres of
Jewish communal activity, with a particular interest in Jewish Day Schools.
During World War II served in Red Cross Detachments in Port Elizabeth. Member
of the Wedgwood Park Country Club. Married Samuel Nell, 1934; one son, one
