PHILIPS, Nehemiah. Q.C., M.A., LL.B. Born Bloemfontein 13th October, 1909, son of Jacob and Rachel Philips. Educated at St. Andrews School and Grey University College, Bloemfontein. President, S.A. Jewish Board of Deputies, since September, 1960; joined the Board's Executive Council in 1947; elected Chairman of the Public Relations Committee, 1950; Vice-Chairman of the Executive Council in 1951; Chairman, 1955-1960. Served with the S.A. Forces in World War II, enlisting as a private and rising to the rank of captain; served in North Africa with the 1st S.A. Division. Member, Wanderers Club.
