PIAT, Xavier. Publicity and Marketing Consultant. Born Warsaw, Poland, 8th July, 1919; son of Zacharias Utan and Vasia Piat. Educated at Vilna University and Paris School of Journalism. Came to South Africa, 1951. Publicity and Advertising Consultant, Sales Promoter and Marketing Counsellor. Director of Piat Promotions & Service Ltd, and Firgo (Pty) Ltd. Previously edited and published various publications in Poland, France and South Africa. Hon. Secretary-Founder of Caspip, 1961; executive member of B'nai B'rith "Bar Kochba" Lodge, Cape Town, since 1964; P.R.O. of Cape Council of B'nai B'rith, since 1966. Member, Sea Point Hebrew Congregation. Hon. Secretary, Africa Friendship Club, since 1953; Committee member, Cape Branch of Institute of Marketing Management since 1964. During World War II was imprisoned in Vilna Ghetto, 1941, and in concentration camps in Estland, Stutthof and Danzig, 1943-1945. Married Chayela Rosenthal, 28th April, 1945; two daughters.
