Educated at Grey Institute, Port Elizabeth, Rhodes University, Grahamstown, and University of South Africa. Director, Primrose Industrial Holdings Ltd., Union Cold Storage of South Africa Ltd., Amalgamated Medical Services Ltd. and several other companies. Chairman, Japhet International Finance Ltd. Executive member, S.A. Jewish Board of Deputies since 1958; Vice-Chairman, 1962-65; Chairman since 1966. Executive member, S.A. Jewish Orphanage since 1942; Chairman, 1948-49; now Hon. Life Vice-President. During World War II served as Lieutenant in National Volunteer Brigade. Member, Houghton Golf Club. Married Lola Hyman, 1936; two sons. Recreations: Reading, golf, bridge.
