REICH, Abraham Ahron, Cantor. Born Poland 5th May, 1912, son of Moshe and Malka Reich. Educated in various colleges in Vienna, Austria. Came to South Africa 1950. Chief Cantor, Great Synagogue, Wolmarans Street, Johannesburg. Formerly Chief Cantor, Yeshurun Synagogue, Jerusalem, 1940-6; Chief Cantor, Great Synagogue, Tel Aviv, 1948-50. Came to South Africa as successor to Cantor Berele Chagy at the Beth Hamedrash Hagodol, Johannesburg. During the Israel War of Liberation, served in the Israeli Army and was appointed one of its Chaplains. Married Sarah Roth, 1934; two daughters. Add.: 106, Cranson Heights, 24 Esselen Street, Hillbrow, Johannesburg.
