Kellen, Barney Louis


KELLEN, Barney Louis. Licentiate, C. I. S., A.C.C.S. Chartered and Certified Secretary. Born Aberdeen, Cape, 31st December, 1912, son of Abraham and Faige Leibe Kellen. Educated at Pretoria Boys' High School. National Secretary, South African Maccabi Association since 1954; previously Department Secretary, S.A. Zionist Federation, 1946- 54. Chairman North Eastern Hebrew Congregation, 1955-57; President, 1958-61 and 62-64. Chaplain, Chaim Weizman Lodge, Hebrew Order of David, since 1960; Chaplain to the Johannesburg Branch of the S.A. Jewish Ex-Servicemen's League since 1952. President of the Governing Body of the Jewish Guild. During World War II served with 2nd Battalion, Botha Regiment, S.R. Brigade, S.A. Infantry; from 1942 was posted to S.A. Military College, Voortrekkerhoogte, as Instructor and Lecturer in Chemical Warfare. Married Rosa Zway, 1937; one son, one daughter.
