LEVINKIND, Disraeli Hyman. B.Sc. (Eng.), M.B.E., M.C. Civil Engineer. Born Colesberg, Cape 13th January, 1894, son of Nathan and Fanny Levinkind. Educated at Colesberg High School and University of Cape Town. Retired Chief Engineer, Department of Water Affairs. Former President, Pretoria Hebrew Congregation; former Chairman, Pretoria Jewish Community Council; former Chairman, Jewish Ex-Servicemen's League (Pretoria Branch); National Vice-President, S.A. Jewish Ex-Servicemen's League; member, S.A. Jewish Board of Deputies (Cape Committee); Vice-President, Cape Jewish Board of Guardians. During World War I served with the Royal Engineers and was awarded the Military Cross. During World War II served with South African Engineering Corps and was awarded the M.B.E.; appointed Director of Engineers and promoted to Colonel. Member, Wingate Park Country Club.
