HIRSCH, Konni, Manufacturers' Representative. Born Munich, Germany, 19th January, 1916, son of Isidore and Ann Mary Hirsch. Educated at school and college in Munich, Germany. Came to South Africa 1936. Is also well known as a stage and radio compere, having appeared with such artists as George Formby, Laurence Harvey, Dickie Valentine, Alfred Marks, Ruby Murray, etc. Served in Entertainments Unit of the Union Defence Force during World War II with the rank of staff sergeant. During army service did Command Performances for Field Marshal Smuts and Queen Frederika of Greece. Married Joanne Growald, 1949; one daughter. Recreations: Stage and radio work; mountaineering.
