KARNOVSKY, Herman Louis. Pharmaceutical Chemist and Director of Companies. Born Lithuania 14th December, 1884, son of Mendel and Sarah Karnovsky. Came to South Africa in 1892. Educated at Marist Brothers College, Johannesburg. Qualified as a Pharmacist in Johannesburg, November, 1905, his certificate being No. 11 (one of the first on the Transvaal Register). With the brothers A. and S. Sive established the firm of Sive and Karnovsky, Ltd., Wholesale Chemists, which was subsequently extended into S.A. Druggists, Ltd. Retired in 1957. Former Vice-Chairman, S.A. Zionist Federation; Past President, Transvaal Pharmaceutical Society; a founder and Past President of the Associated Pharmaceutical Societies of South Africa, and an Executive member of its successive organisation, the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa. Senior Vice-President, Rand Pioneers' Club. Member of various scientific societies, Transvaal Automobile Club, Balfour Park and Durban Jewish Club.
