KATZ, Markus. Engineer. Born Riga 30th August, 1895, son of Ruven and Rochel Katz. Educated at Riga Gymnasium. Came to South Africa 1925. Partner, Universal Engineering Works, Paarden Eiland. Was committee member, Woodstock and Salt River Hebrew Congregation for ten years and its Vice-Chairman for two years. Was Secretary of Woodstock Jewish Relief Society for five years. During First World War, did important Defence work. Married the late Ida Paley 1920. Married Vida Katz, 1959; one son, one daughter. Add.: 106, Delwyn Court, Main Road, Three Anchor Bay, Cape Town.
