GLASSTONE, Reuben. Retired. Born Edinburgh, Scotland, 7th November, 1884, son of Samuel and Dora Glasstone. Educated Edinburgh and Liverpool. Arrived South Africa 1904. Previously Retail and Wholesale Soft Goods Merchant. Early pioneer Belgian Congo (Elisabethville, 1910-1931); was prominent in Jewish community there and instrumental in getting grant of land from the Government and building synagogue. Settled in Cape Town after loss of eldest son in 1931. Assisted in establishing Cape Town Jewish Reform Temple, of which he is still Trustee; active in communal affairs. Member, Claremont Bowling Club and S.A. Turf Club. Married 9th October, 1912; wife's name, Gertrude; one son. Add.: 41, The Sheraton, Oak Avenue, Kenilworth, Cape Town.
