(O.F.S.); F.R.S., S.A.F., F.R.A.I., F.S.S., F.R.- G.S. Medical Practitioner. Born in Libau, Courland. son of Nochem Israel and Hannah Chaia Freed. Came to South Africa 1907. Educated at the Universities of St. Andrews (Scotland), Pretoria, Witwatersrand, Stellenbosch, South Africa and O.F.S. Part-time Lecturer in Department of Psychiatry and part-time Lecturer on Social Medicine, University of the Witwatersrand; Hon. Visiting Lecturer in the Faculty of Social Science, University of O.F.S. Was guest lecturer in Criminology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the University of Cambridge, and in Mental Hygiene at the University of Oxford during 1965. Formerly Medical Officer of Tara Hospital Johannesburg, and Sterkfontein Mental Hospital, Krugersdorp: S.A. Editor of "International Journal of Sexology." Formerly Executive member of the Convocation of Witwatersrand University: Executive member of Witwatersrand Mental Health. Society; Chairman of Publicity Sub-Committee of the Division on Epilepsy of the South African National Council for Mental Health. Member of Executive. Committee, S.A. Epilepsy League, Council of Adult Education, Johannesburg Youth Council, and Institute for the Study of Man in Africa. Executive member S.A. P.E.N. Centre. Member, International Board of Editors, "Journal of Human Development." Basle, Switzerland. Former Executive member, S.A. Ort-Oze and Zionist Revisionist Party (Johannesburg). Author of "The Problem of Prostitution in Johannesburg" (1949), "Crime in South Africa: An Integralist Approach" (1963), Has contributed widely on Medicine, Philosophy and the Arts to various publications.
