CANARICK, Harry. Manufacturers' Representative. Born Salisbury, Rhodesia, 24th April, 1903, son of John and Annie Canarick. Came to South Africa 1908. Educated in Pretoria at Miriam Marks School and Pretoria Boys' High School. Founded Pretoria Jewish Lads' Association, 1922, and was its first Secretary. Was member of Pretoria Hebrew Congregation for many years, having lived there for over 40 years before settling in Durban. International Soccer Referee (refereed England v. South Africa, 1939; Austria vs. South Africa, 1936); two Transvaal Challenge Cup finals and various Currie Cup matches. Was Chairman of the Northern Transvaal Referees' Association 1947/48 and was elected a life member. Was chairman of Natal Maccabi Association 1953-4, and instrumental in arranging the football match between Israel and Natal in 1954. Served with S.A. forces in World War II; saw service in North Africa. Member, Riverside Bowling Club. Married Judith Madnitzky 31st May, 1937. Recreation: Bowls.
