Duschinsky, Eugene Jacob


DUSCHINSKY, Rabbi Eugene Jacob. Μ.Α. Rabbi to Country Communities, S.A. Jewish Board of Deputies, since 1964. Born Rakospalota, Hungary, 5th January, 1916, son of Michael and Leah Duschinsky. Educated in Hungary, Czechoslovakia, England and U.S.A. at Rabbinical Schools and University. Received Rabbinical Diploma in Pressburg, and M.A. from Yeshiva University, New York. Came to South Africa 1949. Was previously Director, Jewish Chaplains' Department, War Office, Budapest (1945-48); member, Supreme Board of Adult Education, Ministry of Culture, Hungary (1945-47). Chief Rabbi, Rakospalota, Hungary; Rabbi, Cape Town Orthodox Hebrew Congregation (1949-1955); Director, Religious Aliyah Department, Jewish Agency (American Section), New York (1955-64); Co-Chairman, World Federation of Hungarian Jews; member, Rabbinical Council of America, Overseas Committee; member, Administrative Committee, Religious Zionists of America; former member, Cape Beth Din. Author of a collection of sermons published in Budapest, 1939; "Nep-Hit-Föld," Budapest, 1946; co-author of "The Jews in the Soviet Satellites" (Syracuse University Press); "Hilkhot Semachot," Shibbolei Haleket, Talpiot, 1963.
