Ben-Moshe, (Grosman) Michael Pesah


BEN-MOSHE (Grosman) Michael Pesah. M.A. (Wits.). Lecturer. Born Linkuva, Lithuania, 8th November, 1912; son of Moshe Joshua and Bliuma Grosman. Came to South Africa 1931. Educated at Hebrew High School in Shavli, Lithuania, and University of the Witwatersrand. Head of the Department of Modern Hebrew, J. L. Zlotnik (Avida) Hebrew Teachers' Training College, Johannesburg. Previously was journalist, and senior lecturer in Hebrew at the Hebrew Teachers Training College, from 1947. Committee member of the Histadruth Ivrith since 1932, of Poalei Zion from 1948-1963, of the Yiddish Cultural Federation, 1950-1961 and of the Editorial Board of "Dorem Afrike," 1950-1961. Was founder-editor of the Hebrew monthly "Bassad" (later "Barkai") Oсtober, 1932; editor of "Our Future" (S.A. Jewish Ob- server"), 1942-53, and "Dapim", (Hebrew monthly). 1951; was member of the editorial staff, "Jewish Daily Press," 1940-1943, and "Jewish Herald," 1940-1943. Author of two volumes of Yiddish poetry, "Opriss (1949), "In Tog Vos Fargeit" (1951). Add.: Wynton- joy Hotel, Catherine Ave., Hillbrow, Johannesburg.
