Blumenthal, Jedidiah


BLUMENTHAL, Jedidiah. Director of Companies; now associated also with Princeton College as a Director. Born in Lithuania 1902 son of Julius and Henne Blumenthal. Studied Law at University of Riga and received Hebrew education under the famous Grammarian, M. Monosowitz. Went to Palestine in 1921 and was Secretary of the Hebrew University's first institution, "University Publications." Came to South Africa 1924. Formed the Hebrew Speaking Circle in Johannesburg, which grew into the Histadruth Ivrith, of which he was Chairman for many years and subsequently President. Edited the first Revisionist publication in South Africa, "The Jewish Tribune" (1932- 33), and was first Editor of the "Jewish Herald" (then known as the "Eleventh Hour"). Was for many years Chairman and is now President of the Zionist Revisionist Movement in South Africa. Was for a period Inspector of the S.A. Board of Jewish Education. Contributed to "Doar Hayom" under Jabotinsky's editorship, and to various other periodicals. Married Chana Hirshberg, 1932; two sons, one daughter. Add.: 18, 6th Av., Lower Houghton, Johannesburg
