ADLER, Cyril. M.B., B.Ch., D. Phys. Med. (Rand) Medical Practitioner. Born Johannesburg 17th September, 1903; son of Herman Benzion and Helena Adler. Educated at Marist Brothers College and Witwatersrand University. While at University was President: Students Representative Council, Students' Medical Council, Students' Jewish Association, and Chairman, Students Union (Wits.). Specialist in Physical Medicine. Consultant: Johannesburg, Coronation and Edenvale Hospitals; Witwatersrand Native Labour Association's Rehabilitation & Paraplegic Unit; Waterval Infectious Fever Hospital, Johannesburg. Chairman, History of Medicine Section, S.A. Medical Congress; President of Convocation, Witwatersrand University; Founder and Hon. Director, Museum of History of Medicine. Witwatersrand University; Member of Council, Witwatersrand University; Founder Fellow, College of Physicians, Surgeons and Gynaecologists of S.A.; and Member of Faculty of Physical Medicine: Member of Faculty of History of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries London; Hon. Member, Societe Francaise de Histoire de la Medecine; Member of the American Association for the History of Medicine; Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, England; Vice-President of the Scientific Council of the International College of Angiology, U.S.A. Awarded Wellcome Trust Travel Study Grant to study Medical History Museums in England and Europe; subsequently visited histórical 'Medical Museums and libraries in U.S.A. Awarded Bronze Medal of Medical Association of S.A. for meritorious service to the medical profession.
