AMIEL, Joseph, Youth Director. Born, Jerusalem, Israel, 4th September, 1932; son of Abraham and Simcah Amiel. Educated at primary and high schools in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Pursued further studies at the Tel Aviv section of the Hebrew University, and participated in an international study group of youth and educational supervisors at the University of Chicago. Came to South Africa in 1965 as Youth Director of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies. Previously was Supervisor of Youth and Community Centres in Tel Aviv, an international camp director in France; organiser of festivals and Day of Independence celebrations in Israel; educational and cultural officer of Nahal units in Israeli Army; director of leadership courses in Israel. Chairman, Johannesburg Youth Council (second term of office). Executive member of Scouts movement in Tel Aviv. Served in War of Liberation in Israel.
