Acting Judge of the Supreme Court (Natal), 1928; M.P.C. for Commissioner Street Division of Johannesburg, 1917-1920; Member, Johannesburg Hospital Board, 1914; Chairman, Rand Central School Board, 1910-1913; Member, Johannesburg Town Council, 1916-1919; Member of Council, University of South Africa since 1924-1930; President, Transvaal Jewish Board of Deputies, 1907-1910; Vice-President, South African Zionist Federation, 1904-1907; President, Johannesburg Jewish Guild, 1925-1927; Committee Member, Witwatersrand Old Hebrew Congregation, 1901-1907; Author of numerous works on South African Law and Constitutional History, including Common Law of South Africa" (4 vols.), "South African Commonwealth," "Empire Government."
