CARASOV, John. Born in Preluk, Russia, in December, 1888. Arrived in England in 1889. Educated at Wrexham Grammar School (North Wales). Editorial Staff, North Wales Guardian, then Widnes (Lancs.) News; many years West Coast of Africa, in charge of Elder Dempster Steamship Company; invalided permanently. Came to South Africa in 1921. Late Secretary, Cape Jewish Orphanage, Cape Jewish Aged Home, The United Hebrew Schools "Lightning Campaign," Russian Relief Fund (Cape Section). Secretary, Cape Jewish Board of Guardians since June, 1922; South African Jewish Board of Deputies, Cape Town representative in Immigration matters since June, 1924. Vice-President, Cape Jewish Orphanage. Member of Committee of United Hebrew Schools. Editor, South African Jewish Chronicle. Appointed Commissioner of Oaths for District of the Cape, 1925. Married 25th February, 1914, at Hope Place Synagogue, Liverpool, to Lilian, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Heilbron, of Liverpool; has two children. Residence, Sea Point.
