HELLMANN, Ellen. B.A., D.Phil. (Rand). Social Anthropologist. Born Johannesburg, 25th August, 1908, daughter of Bernard and Cloti Kaumheimer. Educated at Commercial High School, Johannesburg, and University of the Witwatersrand. Past President and present Executive member, S.A. Institute of Race Relations. Member of the National Executive of the Progressive Party. Former Executive member of the S.A. Jewish Board of Deputies (1940-50). Edited "Handbook on Race Relations in South Africa" (1949). Author of: "Problems of Urban Bantu Youth" (1941), "Rooiyard" (1946), "Sellgoods" (1953). Has contributed studies of urban Native conditions to various sociological journals. Member of Country Club, Johannesburg. Married Dr. Bodo Koch, 1948; one daughter by previous marriage. Add.: 14, First Avenue, Lower Houghton, Johannesburg.
