HERISON, Joshua, B.A. Cantor and Minister of Religion. Born Jerusalem, Israel, 15th June, 1909, son of Solomon and Feighe Herison, and is a 5th Generation Israeli. Educated at Alliance Israelite; Hebrew College, Jerusalem, Technical College Cape Town, University of S.A. Pretoria. Came to South Africa, 17th February, 1930. Minister of Wellington Hebrew Congregation, Cape, Previously Cantor to Springs Hebrew Institutions, Israel Society, Kensington Hebrew Congregation, Etz Chayim Congregation. Formerly Senior Hebrew Teacher, Herber House, Springs, Germiston, Greenside, Cyrildene, Emmarentia, Cape Town. Fluent in eight languages and has a smattering of several others - Hebrew, Arabic, French, Italian, English, Yiddish, German, Afrikaans, Aramaic, Latin, Zulu, Russian. Member of S.A. Jewish Ecclesiastical Association (Cape Town), Histadruth Ivirth, Hebrew Teachers Association, Cantors' and Choirmasters' Association.
