ADLER, Laurence David. M.D., B.Sc., M.B., Ch.B:, DP.H., F.R.S.H., F.S.S. Medical Adviser. Born Johannesburg 14th May, 1899; son of Sydney and Kate Adler. Educated at Marist, Brothers King Edward School and University of the Witwatersrand; post-graduate studies at London, Edinburgh, Holland and Vienna. Medical Officer of Health, Krugersdorp, 1930-1955; Chief Medical Officer, Mines Benefit Society, 1955-1963; Medical Adviser, Protea Pharmaceuticals; Director of Companies. Founder and Past Chairman, Mutual Medical Aid of South Africa: Member, Witwatersrand University Council; State Housing and Slum Board: National Executive Committee of S.A.Ν.Τ.Α. (1956- 1963); Regional Executive Committee, S.A. Red Cross Society; President, Krugersdorp Hebrew Congregation; Member of Medical Panel of the Witwatersrand Jewish Aged Home; Former President of Rotary Club; Member, Houghton Bowling Club and K.E.S. Old Boys Club. Married 13th December, 1925; wife's name Flossie Blanche; one son, one daughter. Served as Lance-Corporal in the S.A. Medical Corps during First World War, and as Lt.-Colonel in the S.A. Medical Corps during Second World War, when he was D.D.M.S. Natal Command. Recreation: Bowls.
