ARMIST, Ben. Director of Companies. Born Latvia 26th
December, 1919, son of Rafel and Ella Armist. Came to South Africa 1931.
Educated at Selborne and Technical College, East London. Elected to East London
City Council in 1961; Chairman of Finance Committee, 1962 to 1967; Deputy
Mayor, 1965 and 1966. Member of Alexander Country Club, Maccabi Committee and
Museum Board, East London. Served as Staff Sergeant in S.A.A.F. during World
War II. Married Judith Dorfman, 1944, twin sons, one of whom volunteered for
service in Israel during 1967 war. Add.: 6, Muirfield Road, Bunkers Hill, P.O.
